California CE Requirements

California State Board Examiners DC License Renewal Requirements consist of 24 hours that must be completed per year by the end of the licensee’s birthday month. 12 hours of Continuing Education may be taken online each year.

CE Required Categories:


  • All classes must be approved by the Board of Chiropractic Examiners
  • Some courses are eligible for repetition during the same licensure year
  • Must provide documentation of in-class attendance
  • Two hours must be completed in Ethics and Law
  • Classes on Technique are not required but are recommended

Four hours must be completed of one of the following classes:


  • Chiropractic Adjustive or Manipulation Techniques
  • History Taking and Physical Examination Procedures
  • Proper and Ethical Billing and Coding

Classes that are not eligible to fulfill the 24-hour requirements:


  • Financial Management and Collections
  • Income Generation
  • Practice Building
  • Self-Motivation
  • Patient Recruitment

18 hours may be selected as elective classes from any of the following:


  • Philosophy of Chiropractic
  • Basic Sciences: Anatomy, Histology, Neurology, Physiology, Nutrition, Pathology, Biochemistry, or Toxicology
  • History Taking & Physical Examination Procedures
  • Diagnostic Testing Procedures (Radiology & MRI)
  • Chiropractic Adjustive & Manipulation Techniques
  • Pain Management Theory
  • Physiotherapy
  • MUA (Manipulation Under Anesthesia)
  • Special Population Care:(Geriatric, Pediatric, Athletes)
  • Proper and Ethical Billing and Coding
  • Ethics and Law
  • Pharmacology
  • CPR (2 hours max annually)
  • Probationary Licenses (4 hours max annually)
  • Wellness (Prevention, Health Maintenance)
  • Rehabilitation
  • Public Health
