Michigan CE Requirements

Michigan Board of Chiropractic License Renewal Requirements consist of 30 hours that must be completed December 31st before the end of two years from the date the chiropractic license was issued. 15 hours of the required 30 hours may be taken in approved distance learning programs. No Chiropractor is exempt from this requirement.

Continuing Education Requirements:


  • For every license renewal period, 15 hours may be obtained through distance learning programs. These may include, but are not limited to, internet education programs, CDs, DVDs, video and audio tapes, journal articles, and manuals. To obtain CE credit for distance learning, successful completion of a proficiency testing component is required.
  • A chiropractor renewing his/her license should maintain records of CE completion for 4 years after renewal application.
  • One hour of each: Sexual Boundaries, Ethics, and Pain and Symptom Management
  • Two hours of live, in-person CE of physical measures
  • Two hours of live, in-person CE of performance and ordering tests.

  • DO NOT SEND THE CONTINUING EDUCATION DOCUMENTS along with the license renewal application. The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. The Bureau of Health Care Services will conduct an audit at the conclusion of the renewal period. Chiropractors chosen for audit through an automated random selection process will be contacted by letter to submit documented evidence of the completion of 30 hours of continuing education credit (Michigan.gov, 2017).
  • A professional or nonprofit organization or association representing a licensed profession that has open membership and election of officers whose program objectives relate to the practice of chiropractic
  • A chiropractor who is unable to provide evidence of completion of the continuing education requirements, when requested, is in violation of the Michigan Public Health Code and subject to one or more of the following possible license sanctions: reprimand, probation, denial, suspension, revocation, limitation, restitution, and fine (Michigan.gov, 2017).
  • Accredited sponsors are required to provide attendance certificates that indicate name of licensee, program dates and number of designated hours. Further information about programs with accredited sponsorship may be obtained by contacting the accredited sponsor (Michigan.gov, 2017).
